What should I do before I go to the hospital?

May 10, 2021
  1. Arrange childcare & pet care as necessary – this includes any training for a pet that may jump up or cause harm (unintentionally) after your surgery
  2. Pre-arrange yard or pool care schedules
  3. Pay bills or set up auto-pay
  4. Remove any clutter or cords as well as area or throw rugs that could impede on your mobilization around your home.
  5. Arrange household items you may need so that they are easily accessible and positioned so you can minimize stairs, bending down or reaching high.
  6. Sleeping arrangements – do you need any accessories for post-surgery sleep (e.g. big pillows)
  7. Clean sheets and towels for easy use.  Consider purchasing Chux (registered mark) – waterproof pad to cover the mattress.  This helps prevent having to change the sheets following a leak, etc.
  8. Compile a list of helpful contacts and make sure contacts are up-to-date on the phone (family, friends, doctor, insurance, meal ordering services, etc.)
  9. Download and/or subscribe to helpful apps or online resources for complete mind and body healing.
